Taking Actions Day: Changing the world with kindness!
Taking Actions was founded on October 16, 2010. This campaign has been my biggest accomplishment yet, so for the first 3 years I celebrated our anniversaries by having a cake and getting together with friends, which I don't even do for my own birthday.
As our 4th year anniversary approached, I started to think of a different way to celebrate Taking Actions. Instead of getting together with my closest friends, I wanted to celebrate the purpose behind this campaign. I thought it would be a great idea to go out to the streets and help random people as a way to spread kindness.
While I was brainstorming different ideas on how to name the event, I thought that "Taking Actions Day" was the most appropriate name, not only because it celebrates this campaign's anniversaries but also because it celebrates our mission with a full day of actions, changing the world with kindness. I designed the logo (see left) and shared it with the official announcement on August 24, 2014. The gray shades on the letter "O" of the word "Actions" symbolizes a clock with the time of "10:16," which represents the campaign's foundation date, October 16 (10/16).
As I kept thinking about different ways to involve and engage our supporters in such celebration I came up with the idea of this 2-part annual event: |
The main event is the actual "Taking Actions Day," which is observed on the 3rd Saturday of each October. The concept is to do as many random acts of kindness as possible in 12 hours (10:16am to 10:16pm). By giving out our exclusive Taking Actions Day Card (see below) to those we help, we encourage them to pay it forward by passing on the card, along with a good deed to someone else.
One of the several acts of kindness that we do on this day is to make a donation to a random non-profit organization. We ask our supporters to nominate their favorite charity, cause and/or group, and we randomly select one on the day of the event.
The 2nd part of this event is a social media celebration with our "31-Day Kindness Event." During the entire month of October we encourage our followers to join us by doing something nice for someone else. For every act of kindness shared (using the hashtag: #TakingActionsDay) between 10/1 and 10/31, we donate $1 to another nominated non-profit. All participants qualify for a raffle that is drawn on November 1, for a special gift of appreciation.

For each "Taking Actions Day," we create a Facebook Event page to share updates, make non-profit nominations, document all the good deeds shared by our supporters and interact with other participants. If you would like to participate in person in any of the events, feel free to contact us for more information.
Please, consider making a donation to support our efforts to help as many people as possible during these events.

Share this event with your friends, and help us reach a bigger audience. If we help one person and that person helps someone else, then the ripple effect will spread all over. We can all make a difference together. Kindness can change the world.
